I had the sweet opportunity (via Monster Merch) to design a new shirt for Ascend the Hill, an up and coming indie worship band with amazing sound and amazing heart. This was one of the fastest, and most fun projects I’ve worked on in the past couple months. There was a grand total of 6 hours from start to finish (concepting, to design, submission and approval). That’s nuts, I think this is a new record.
For this project I used elements from GoMedia’s vector packs. I’ve been experimenting quite a bit with using stock vectors in ways that are less typical. In this project, I wanted the tree to be distinct, while still keeping the design abstract enough to have a certain level of depth. My guess is you’ll look at the scene differently depending on who you are. I like that, so I won’t try to explain it away for you, but feel free to ask me what I see if you’re interested.
To you designers out there, I want to encourage you to keep pushing the envelope and think creative. With an innovative eye for even so-called ‘cut & paste’ designs can turn into something more.
Check out Ascend the Hill at www.myspace.com/ascendthehill and keep an eye out for this shirt at their shows in the fall.
There’s a lot of new and exciting projects on my radar and a lot of refreshing changes on the horizon. Everything is kicking off with a ministry trip to San Francisco this Sunday (Aug 9-16) and then moving right into school, a slew of exciting projects and some new job descriptions on the Missions Base. I’m stoked for the Fall; it’s been amazing summer, the Lord’s continuously proving himself faithful and kind in the midst of my faithlessness and weakness.
